| CERBERUS
for WELL INTERVENTION - SET-DOWN FORCE (WEIGHT ON BIT) |
| Previous
Slide | Next Slide | Exit Show
The graph of Maximum Set-Down Weight
vs Depth tells you how much push, if any, you can apply at the
end of the toolstring at each depth. This is the same as Maximum
Weight On Bit (WOB), an extremely important parameter in drilling
operations. Note that Cerberus is able to predict WOB with considerable
accuracy given only surface weight and depth, and without the
need for downhole MWD type measurements, a feature which is exploited
in the real-time mode.
Since cable is unable to support
compression (you can't push a rope), this result is less
useful in wireline mode. However, there are some situations
where it can still come in handy, especially when there
is a heavy toolstring used to shift a sliding sleeve
or set a gas-lift mandrel in a moderately deviated well.

Note that the results are
negative. This is the sign convention used in Cerberus,
where upward force (tension) is positive and downward
force (compression) is negative.
