This NOV CTES Depth Measuring System improves the accuracy of CT depth measurement.

Typical depth systems have one friction wheel which runs against the CT.  The wheel may slip due to vibration or dirt, causing an error in the depth measurement.  This system uses two diametrically opposed depth wheels, each with its own encoder.  For any time increment, the signals from the two wheels are compared, and the signal from the wheel moving the fastest is used to calculate the change in depth for that time increment.  Thus, if one wheel slips, depth accuracy is maintained by the other wheel. It is unlikely that both wheels will slip at the same time.
